Here is a lovely piece of biology. Your stomach produces acid strong enough to strip paint, and floating in it is a protein that survives perfectly well. Researchers in Croatia went looking for the part of that protein doing the work, narrowed it to a stretch of fifteen amino acids, and made it synthetically. That fragment is BPC-157.

Sequence and structure

GEPPPGKPADDAGLV. Fifteen residues, no disulphide bridges, no unusual modifications. About as simple as research peptides get, and that simplicity is part of the appeal: cheap to synthesise, easy to characterise, unusually stable.

The question researchers are asking

Most of the literature circles one idea: angiogenesis. New blood vessels growing into tissue that needs them.

Think about why that is interesting. Tendon and ligament heal slowly, and one reason is that they have a poor blood supply. Cartilage barely heals at all, and it has almost none. If a compound reliably encourages vessel growth into tissue that struggles to get it, the implications reach a long way past whatever injury is in front of you. That is the prize, and it is why this small peptide gets the attention it does.

The published work sits mainly in tendon and ligament models, gut models and vessel formation, with a smaller and rather interesting body on nerve tissue.

Where the science currently stands

Early, and mostly in rodents. Human data is thin. Worth knowing, and also the reason the field is active rather than closed. Read the primary papers and note which model each result came from, and you will get far more out of the literature than any summary can give you.

Handling and solubility

Refreshingly easy. Dissolves readily in bacteriostatic water with no acid or base needed. White lyophilised powder. Sealed vial at minus twenty holds its stated shelf life comfortably.
