Research background
The short version
A four amino acid peptide studied for its effects on telomerase, the enzyme that maintains the protective caps on the ends of chromosomes. Most of the research is Russian and dates from the 1990s onward.
Epitalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide, Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, developed from work on pineal gland peptide preparations. It is one of the shortest sequences in the catalogue and among the most difficult to research properly, because a large share of the primary literature is in Russian and not indexed in the usual databases.
Where it came from
Developed at the Saint Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology from earlier work on Epithalamin, a pineal extract. The synthetic tetrapeptide was intended to reproduce the active fraction.
How it is thought to work
Proposed to influence telomerase activity, which would in turn affect telomere length across cell divisions. The mechanism by which a four residue peptide would achieve this is not established.
Some work proposes effects on melatonin rhythm via the pineal axis, reflecting the compound's origin.

Store the sealed vial at -20C, protected from light. Sealed and held at that condition it carries a shelf life of 24 months from date of manufacture, sealed from the date of manufacture. Once reconstituted, shelf life shortens considerably and the solution should be aliquoted before freezing rather than thawed repeatedly.
How is Epitalon 50mg reconstituted?
Soluble in bacteriostatic water. Add the solvent slowly down the inside wall of the vial rather than directly onto the material, then swirl gently to dissolve. Do not shake, vortex or sonicate to speed it up. A cloudy solution that will not clear usually means the wrong solvent rather than a poor batch.
